Two new tailor-made courses
are available: Land reclamation and land use planning under post-tsunami
conditions in Aceh, Indonesia (LUPTA),
and Sustainable Development of Tropical Peatlands (PeatWise).
In recent years, Alterra-ILRI has begun to offer training courses
that are a direct follow-up of its research and advisory activities
with, and for, organisations in developing countries. Such courses
are referred to as ‘tailor-made courses’ because they are set up
at the request of an organisation and their content is tailored
to the specific training needs of the requesting organisation’s
staff.
Tailor-made courses can be given either at Alterra-ILRI, Wageningen,
or in the home country of the organisation that requests them. The
keyword in designing tailor-made courses that will meet the training
needs of various clients is 'flexibility'. Alterra-ILRI develops
the content of each tailor-made course separately, working with
the requesting organisation and with local research institutes,
consulting firms and governmental agencies. Together, Alterra-ILRI
and its partners attune the course content to the local circumstances
while making sure not to lose the global perspective. For every
tailor-made course, Alterra-ILRI combines its own expertise, built
up over forty-five years in countries around the world, with the
expertise that is locally available to create the most relevant
curriculum possible for the participants.
The website describes in detail a number of Alterra-ILRI’s tailor-made
courses, each having its own curriculum and target group:
