Course 2010 “Integrated Water Resources Management” successfully implemented!

The course on “Integrated water resources management” took place in Wageningen from 8 to 26 November. Participants came from India, Indonesia, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa. This year’s course was centered on the issue of dealing with change. Both the Comprehensive Assessment on Water use in Agriculture and the CSD 17 call for fundamental changes in the ‘way we think about water and agriculture’. The course facilitated participants to reflect on these changes and provided tools to deal with the implications of these new paradigms in land and water management in their own working environment. The study program also included new methods to search and acquire information (digital libraries, electronic magazines, internet, etc.) and the use of acquired information in individual assignments. The experience gained in these assignments was shared in a plenary workshop.

Concluding Workshop 49th ICLD

This year the International Course on Land Drainage has a different set-up
instead of organizing the 4 modules after each other, they are organized in parallel sessions. Furthermore, a shift has been made from lectures on basics to lectures that focus more on application.

The course started on Monday 6 June with 15 participants from Egypt, India, Nigeria, Pakistan the Netherlands and Zimbabwe.

On Friday afternoon, 26 June, the Course will be concluding with a workshop in which we will discuss the lessons learned with adapting irrigation and drainage practices to climate change (the overall theme of this year’s Course). Lessons learned with adaptation in the Netherlands, in the home countries of the participants, and at an international level will be presented. In a group decision set-up, we will discuss how we can learn from each other’s experiences and how others can learn from us.  This closing workshop will also be attended by staff of the Centre for Water and Climate and some representatives from other Dutch organizations working in this field of expertise.
