Fellowships Candidates may wish to get financial assistance to cover all or part of the cost of participation in one of the our programmes or courses. Therefore, candidates should first explore possibilities with their employer or national government. If this is unsuccessful, we can be of assistance in identifying possible sources.

NFP Fellowship

A limited number of fellowships for our Water Courses is available from the Netherlands Fellowships Programme (NFP) for applicants from selected countries (NFP country list).

Online applications for an NFP fellowship are submitted through Scholarships Online (SOL).

The procedure to apply for an NFP fellowships is:

  • Obtaining admission: First, the candidate applies for admission directly to Alterra for the short course by sending an email to: ilri@ilri.nl
     

  • Alterra will assess the application and decides whether or not to admit the candidate to the short course, based on education and language proficiency.
     

  • If the participant has received a letter of admittance from Alterra for the course, he/she can apply for the NFP fellowship using the Scholarships Online (SOL) application tool.

Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP)
If your country is a member of the Worldbank you can apply for a fellowship from the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP).
Application forms are available at the JJ/WBGSP Secretariat at World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC.

American Association of University Women International Foundation (AAUW)

You may inquire about the International Fellowships that are offered by the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation (AAUW Educational Foundation).

The Ford Foundation is a resource for innovative people and institutions worldwide. The foundation provides support of formal graduate-level study.

Fellowship via Projects/Programmes
Candidates from developing countries professionally involved in a development project funded by foreign or multilateral aid are advised to inquire with the executing agency as to whether their participation could be funded from a training component of the project budget or from other budget lines.
Please note that the fellowship opportunities mentioned below are almost without exception meant for study and research in the framework of running projects and programmes financed by the donor organisation. It is not possible to get a scholarship is you are not involved in the projects.

  • United Nations and other fellowship programmes
    Many United Nations organisations and other international organisations offer fellowships to enable people from certain countries or areas to attend one of the master programmes or specialised studies. For information one could address the local representative of the respective organisation.
