International Course on the Design, Implementation and operation
of drainage systems
Drainage criteria are the starting point for the actual design of drainage systems. In the 3-weeks module “Design and Operations of Drainage Systems” the participants will learn details on the technical designs of surface and subsurface drainage systems, from the farmers’ field to the outlet. Moreover, the participants will learn the critical aspects of drain installation and the operation and maintenance of drainage systems. Excursions to contractors and manufacturers will ensure that the course module is practical and that participants get acquainted with present-day drainage technology and hardware.
Aims
After the module the participant will be able to:
- Make a planning
for drainage in an area with waterlogging and/or salinity problems
through a systematic approach in design, implementation and operation
and maintenance
- Analyse available data for a technical design and
make sound estimates of parameters under conditions of limited data
- Select formulas and models most suitable for the given conditions
- Calculate the variables for sound technical design of surface or subsurface
drainage
- Apply the selected design approach under soil & climatologic
conditions resembling home country conditions.
