General Information
Since
1962 Alterra-ILRI organizes international (post-graduate) short
training courses for mid-career professionals in land and water
management.
The short courses are organized in Wageningen, The
Netherlands. Participants can benefit from direct interaction
with a wide range of experts with hands-on experience. In
addition regional tailor-made courses and “refresher courses”
are organized to address specific topics in land and water
management. Evaluations of Alterra-ILRI's training courses by
the participants are consistently high.
Target Group
Alterra-ILRI Courses are intended for professionals working for
government, for NGO's and for private consultants with the goal
to improve the living conditions in rural areas, and for
researchers who wish to develop and disseminate appropriate
solutions for the water management problems they face.
Participants come from all over the world.
Courses
2011
For 2011, two renewed modules are developed for the Land and
Water Courses:

Increasing Water Productivity in Water Scarce Areas
(Start Course: 6 November 2011, 3 weeks duration)
This course module is aimed at supporting planners, decision
makers and executives in water and agriculture in
reconciling land and water management in view of sustainable
food production under water-scarce conditions. The focus
will be on semi-arid and arid areas.
This module is eligible for Nuffic NFP fellowships.
Fellowships can be applied for through a website tool
(Scholarship Online, SOL), from 1 February 2011 onwards.

Save Water - Save Harvest - Save Life: Water for Food and
Ecosystems
(Start Course: 5 June 2011, 3 weeks duration)
This course module aims at the principles and methods to
manage and prioritize scarce water resources for food
production and sustainable ecosystems. The application
procedure for Nuffic NFP fellowships for this module is
closed. However there are other fellowship programmes (see
for example
www.grantfinder.nl).
